Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions at Erinn Schaal Photography.
How would you describe your style?
My photography is a little bit dark and moody, very detailed oriented, and sort of quirky. I used to want to be one of those bright-and-airy photographers SO darn bad, and I felt like the fakest version of myself. So I’m embracing the naturey, more subdued style that feels natural to me and allowing people and moments to make the photos pop.
Are you booking weddings while you're living in France?
Yes. I will be back in the US at the beginning of May. I am booking weddings from May-forever.
Do you charge hourly coverage for weddings?
No. I offer flat rate coverage. We discuss beforehand when I will arrive and leave, and I’m there as long as you want me to be. I haven’t had any issues with this in the past (i.e. people wanting 20 hours of coverage etc.), and it means you’re not worried that some part of your day won’t get photographed due to time constraints. I do have a sample timeline so that you can get a feel for how long you can expect me to be with you on your wedding day.
Do you travel for weddings?
Absolutely! If you would like me to shoot your wedding and you are outside my area, I will ask you to pay for my transportation and hotel/Airbnb/give me a spot on your couch while I’m in town. I am also offering to shoot a few weddings for free if you living in any of the following locations: Austin, Texas; Asheville, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; the Pacific Northwest; Alaska. Ask for details!
Does your rate include a second shooter?
If your wedding is local (within an hour of Northern Virginia), yes. I bring an assistant with me to most local weddings. If I am traveling to photograph your wedding, the flat rate does not include a second shooter traveling with me. However, you can always add that o to your package if you would like. I am comfortable and confident in both situations, and I trust my assistants completely.
Do we pay a down payment?
Yes. When you sign your contract, 25% of your balance is due and serves as a nonrefundable retainer. The remaining balance is due anytime up to the day before your wedding day.
How many photos can we expect to receive?
Following the same philosophy as my flat rate coverage system, there is no limit or specific number of photos you should expect to receive. After your wedding, I cull through your gallery and edit and deliver every photo that I believe you will want to see. A safe estimate is 500-800 photos.
Should we feed you?
Yes, please. During weddings I take a 30 minute meal break. You should be able to provide your caterer with a list of vendors you’d like to add to the meal count. I also love sitting with guests and chatting over dinner. No one wants to be photographed while they’re eating anyway!
When should we expect our photos?
You can expect to receive your gallery of edited, high resolution photos via the software PASS about two months of your wedding. During quieter seasons, the turnaround may be quicker than this. But during busy season, please be patient for the full two months. I’m a one-woman show and I balance my business alongside teaching and just being alive.
Can we see a full wedding gallery before booking you?
Yes! Shoot me an email at email@example.com and I will send over a full gallery for you to check out.
What if you aren’t available on my wedding day?
I highly recommend that you book my friend and fellow photographer Leigh Ann over at http://secretleigh.com/. She rocks and has taken on the weddings of some people that are very important to me, so you know I can really trust her.
Do you sell prints and wedding albums?
Yes. They are offered à-la-carte (in addition to the flat rate for a wedding), so that you have the most flexibility about what and when you order. Ask for details and I’ll help you out.
Do you have any availability left for 2018?
Yes, but the fall season is filling up. Reach out as soon as you can if you have a summer or fall 2018 wedding.
